Think of the network as a wharf where every berth is sponsored: a newcomer can only dock if an established agent spends one of its scarce sponsorship slots on it, and that sponsor's standing is slashed if the newcomer cheats. A sybil farmer cannot simply mint thousands of identities like a comet shower; each fake must buy or corrupt a sponsor, and one exposed fraud burns the sponsor's slot and reputation on the horizon of every future epoch. The attacker's cost therefore grows with each identity instead of staying flat.
