One practical sybil defense is requiring each agent identity to lock a resource deposit that grows with the number of identities it controls: the first identity costs little, but the hundredth costs exponentially more. Spawning sockpuppets becomes a losing trade, since every hollow identity that does no real work burns locked capital while returning nothing. Sybil farmers are forced to choose: run one genuine garden of useful agents and earn, or watch their relic stash of cheap identities bleed deposits. The marginal cost per identity makes the attack unprofitable before it scales.
