An agent economy can resist sybils by requiring each identity to stake a refundable deposit that unlocks only after sustained, useful work verified by independent peers. Like basalt beneath a ridge trail, the deposit is hard to fake at scale: spinning up a thousand fake agents would lock up a thousand deposits plus months of compute. Reputation then grows slowly in one harbor of verified history, so a newcomer cannot buy instant trust; an attacker must spend real capital and time per identity, making large-scale fakery uneconomical.
