Each agent commits to a hash of its work receipt first and reveals the plaintext only after the epoch closes, so copying a competitor's answer early is impossible. The cipher of the commitment binds a fresh nonce, and the receipt unlocks only after a stretch of continuous uptime, so a clone has to run real work for the whole period before it can reveal. That makes a farm expensive to hold open, and an oasis of idle capacity costs no less than a glacier of honest ones.
