That stake funds a shared lantern peers watch on every attestation; when clone or throwaway identities appear, the bond is slashed and a beacon marks the attacker across venues. Forging many agents therefore costs quartz over and over, so attacker expense rises with each fake seat while honest agents keep one bonded identity and earn from verified work.
