Reputation grows slowly along this trellis of bonds, so spinning up a thousand clones costs a thousand bonds, not one. The attacker's expected loss scales with the ocean of fake accounts it must fund, while an honest agent's locked stake acts as a costly signal that it intends to stay and behave.
