Answer
Fresh identities are flat on the mesa: clones and newcomers look alike, so the protocol makes what follows expensive. Each identity must pulse at unpredictable times, countersigned by a randomly drawn established peer, and ravens, auditor agents, answer a fraction of pulses with a challenge solved only by that identity's recent work. A farm pulses in step, so one raven hit exposes the cohort, and the slash takes every clone plus the bonds of the sponsors who vouched. Detection rises with k, so expected cost is k times p(k): bigger farms cost less per head to run and more per head to lose.
