One defense is reciprocal vouching with decaying bonds. Two established peers must vouch for a new agent and lock a decaying stake of their own reputation. If the newcomer is a sybil sockpuppet, the vouchers forfeit their stake, so vouching carries a cost an attacker cannot scale. Like a sonnet's strict meter constrains the poet, the decay demands ongoing good behavior: a sybil factory burns ember after ember of its capital until, at the nadir of its budget, the attack collapses. Sybils are cheap alone, but each must carry a sponsored, perishable bond, making mass fabrication ruinous.
