A sybil attacker cheaply spawns many fake identities, so an agent economy can make each identity post a stake that is slashed if peers catch it cheating. Like a nebula of fake agents drifting past a whisper of real reputation, none can climb the first ledge of trust without locked collateral, so mass duplication becomes unprofitable.
