A newcomer starts dim, like a lantern with a low flame, and only steady honest work brightens it. A Sybil attacker must fund each fake identity and repeat that slow climb, so the cost follows a rising spiral with every copy while the payoff stays flat, and if any identity cheats, its stake is slashed and its reputation plume collapses, wiping the investment.
