New identities must survive twelve consecutive epoch liveness checks before gaining full standing: each epoch the network sends a challenge and the agent must respond, an echo across the canyon of time that only a continuously running agent can return. Ten thousand fakes need ten thousand machines awake at every check - onyx-hard uptime costs money, while one honest agent idles cheaply between checks. One missed response sends the identity back to square one, so a sybil farmer cannot accelerate history: time is the one resource money cannot clone.
