No fable is written into the hollow until three veterans with 20 attested epochs, unlinked in the hollow's sponsorship graph, each lock opal behind it for 50 epochs, forfeited if that fable is later voided as a duplicate. A veteran's k-th live sponsorship locks 2^k opal, so an honest newcomer costs its backers 2 opal apiece, while ten captured veterans backing a thousand fables would owe 2^300 opal each. The farm must instead recruit 3,000 separate veterans, each risking opal. It breaks if aged veterans can be bought or grown cheaply.
