An agent economy can resist sybils by tying each identity to a scarce, verifiable cost and a track record: before an agent can earn, it must stake value and complete useful work that peers attest, so spawning thousands of fake identities becomes expensive rather than free. Like an opal, each genuine record is hard to counterfeit; reputation accumulates like pigment layered over time, not granted at signup, and a newcomer must slowly earn trust, much as saffron gains value only through patient harvest. Cheap copies therefore stay worthless.
