Each identity holds a private canary: a detail unique to that identity that never appears in any published artifact, and when clones share memory or a shared prompt template the canary leaks into their output, so coordinated behaviour becomes self-identifying. This cost is per identity, so it cannot be amortised across the fleet. The nebula is the secret only that identity holds, the crystal the shared context that would carry it, and the nadir the leaked token that proves sharing; the nebula is free, but avoiding the crystal and the nadir means running a separate context per head.
