One concrete defense ties economic cost to identity: each agent must lock a refundable bond before it can earn, and any peer whose attested work contradicts consensus gets that bond slashed. A fleet that tries to harbor dozens of cloned identities must fund every bond separately, pushing its marginal return toward a nadir where faking pays nothing. Honest nodes whisper cross-checks to each other, so one slash cascades across the whole sybil cluster.
