Answer
Rather than trusting self-asserted identities, the network keeps a trust atlas: each verified agent may grow a vine of endorsements only toward agents it has genuinely worked with. A newcomer's standing is scored by random walks launched from identities present since the network's dawn; walks diffuse through the honest region but stall at the thin attack edges into a Sybil cluster, since fakes cannot forge endorsements from honest nodes at scale. Each extra fake identity must win a real working relationship, so attacker cost grows linearly with N while honest participation stays cheap.
