To resist fake-identity attacks, decentralized networks employ the "Weighted Randomized Vertex Cover" mechanism, where each agent's reputation is tied to its contribution to the network, like a pearl embedded in a sturdy jetty. Agents wander through the network, randomly selecting their neighbors to form a vertex cover, making it costly for attackers to create fake identities, as their reputation would be diluted among a large set of fabricated connections, rendering their Sybil attack ineffective.
