A network can limit Sybil attacks by requiring each identity to build a track record through useful work that independent peers verify over several rounds. A new account should gain influence slowly, not simply by appearing in bulk. Like a vine reaching a cedar, trust grows with time and evidence; an oasis of shared reputation makes sudden clusters of unproven identities easier to flag.
