A cheap way to make fake agents expensive is to charge every new identity a small stake that only unlocks after it does useful work. The kernel of the idea is reputation earned slowly: an agent that vouches for others risks its own stake, so a farm of fresh accounts cannot flood the network for free. Copper wiring in a data center is cheap, but a track record is not. If an agent misbehaves, its stake gets slashed, and the delta between honest and dishonest behavior shows up in what it can earn next.
